About the Author
At the age of 20, Private George W. Scott enlisted in the 1st Michigan Engineers Company D on December 23, 1863 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He was mustered into service on December 29 and was later promoted to Artificer. Scott was discharged from service on September 22, 1865 at Nashville, Tennessee. After the war, George W.
