Regiment: 1st Michigan Engineers Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: Chattanooga August 8th 1864 Dear Sister I received you kind letter to day dated the twentyninth and wa vey glad to hear from you agan. It found me well and enjoying my self as well as could be expected. We have came back to Chattanooga a gan. We left the woods the first of the month. We expect to march towards the front in a few days. The talk now is that we will go to Marietta but thare aint nothing positive about it. We haint got rid of the mill yet. If the will let some one else run the mill our company can go to the front. If they dont, part of the men will have to run the mill and the rest go up the river a gan. I saw Ike the other day, he looks tough as ever. He says the rest of the boys are well. I hope we will go towards Atlanta for then I can see the other boys–I am much oblige to Meary Babcock (if such if her name for I did not know she was married) for her kind wishes and like to see her again for the union but would like to see her send her man to the war, but I supose she cant see the union in that light. Well I dont know as I blame her. I tell you what. I would like to be thare to go to that selebration first rate but I dont see as I can very well. I wonder if they will have any runaways this time. I dont think Osta can brag over you much now, that is rather a nifer on Dan and his new team but more of a niper on the girls. I havent herd from Mary B. in a long time. I guess she has forgotten me. I am glad you get a long with your studies so well. I wish I could say as much. I am afraid if the war dont end before long I shant have much time to go to school befor that five years is up, but I am bound to go to school when I get home. But I am afraid you will get so much the start of me that I can never cach up. You had better believe I would like to see you. I would give as much as a one pence any way. But never mind, thare is more days and better ones, I hope after this cruel Rebellion is put down, which I hope wont be a great while. They still keep fighting at Richmond and Atlanta but they dont seem to take eather place yet. But I guess they will before long. If they draft up thare it will make some of them felows husle. I guess they will wish they had enlisted. I cant think of any more to write this time. Sabin and Myron are well. Sabes Eyes are better than ever. We have pretty hot weather here now. Good by for this time. Write Soon. George
