Regiment: 1st Michigan Engineers Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: Chattanooga Tenn June 22nd 1864 Dear Sister I received your letter day before yester day and was very glad to hear from you and to hear that you was well and enjoy ing your self so well I am well as usual and enjoying my self first rate I am at Chattanooga to day I came down on a raft our detachment has all got marching orders but our company they have gone up the river to get out logs all but what is to work in the mill and a few others I am going up the river a gan to morrow Ike and Wells and the rest of the boys are usualy well they expect to go to morow to the front I think our company will be apt to go in a little whill we have pretty good times up the river though it is a good deel better than down here it is very unhealthy here now thare is lots of the boys sick thar was died from our company a few day a go. it is getting pretty hot weather here now you said you had not had a letter from me in a long time I write often I am sure I try to write as often as once a week I wrote you one last week and sent you a pen. after Sabin saw the pen I got he thought he would send for one to so he sent for one first like the one I got and when it came it was a [  ?  ] pen a good deel larger than yours and some better if I had not sent you ours I would send it back and get a better one but it is to late now but I will make it up some other time I am glad to hear that you enjoy your school so well I should like to have ben thare to visit Ladies school with you and Mother but never mind I will be home some time if ever and then I can go to school we keep a getting favorable news from Richmond I guess the Rebs will have to give up after a while it is hard to tell how soon though the quicker the sooner I supose I cant think of much to write to day I on a way from home here it seems more like home up the river with the other Boys diner is ready so I shall have to go or lose my diner and I cant a ford to do that you know so good by in haste write son George [On Envelope:] Miss Mariette Hutchins Lamont Ottawa Co Mich
