Regiment: 1st Michigan Engineers Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: Chattanooga April 27 1864 Met Seing I had not received a letter from you in a good while I thought I would write one to you I haven’t received any answer to my last letter yet I haven’t had any letter fo two weeks or more I guess you have forgotten mee I havent had any letter from home in some time rather. I think if you have forgotten me I will mearly remind you that I am a live yet and well as usual enjoying my self as well as can be expected considering the sircumstances which ar pretty favoerable if a fellow is well that is the most I care a bout I can get a long sogerin if I am only well and I have been blessed with good health so far it is getting pretty warm here now I don’t know how I will stand the warm weather but I guess I will stand it all right I have to work the most of the time now our company is building a large magazine 70 by an 100 feet wee have been to work on that for quite a while we are building it of brick a cover it with dirt and gravel it will bee fire proof cabin is at work at the mill yet he likes it first rate he says it is very healthy work I would like to be thare my if I had a good job Ike is getting most well he is out a round consider able he has been quite sick I suppose you will be going to school pretty soon I hope you will have a good school and a good time I would like first rate to be thare my self but I supos I shall have to wait till the war is over I don’t hardly think that will be mor than a year I hope not any how I received a letter from Mary B the other day she was well she said and enjoy ing her self first rate I am glad of that I hope she has got a good home I believe you never have told me who was going to be your teacher this spring at Lamont I was very sory to hear that Mart was dead poor fellow he was a vitom of rebellion with thousands of others we haven’t lost but a few men out of our Co. but company K has lost quite a number since I came her mostly new recruits it is getting dark and my sheet is full so don’t forget to write write once a week any way good by for this time       George S [On Envelope:] Miss Meriette Hutchins Coopervill Otawa Co Michigan
