Regiment: 1st Michigan Engineers Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: Chattenooga April 10, 1864 Dear Mett I received your welcome letter dated the March 28th and was more than glad to hear from you and glad to hear that you was well and I am well as usual and so is the resst of the boys except Ike he is quite unwell at present but I guess he will soon bee well. Sabin is at work at the mill yet he says he likes thare first rate he is up to camp every few days we are having a good deel of rainy weather down here now it is quite warm though I suppose our folks are making lots of shugar by this time I received a letter from nettie the other day, she sent me one of those pictures I had taken at Tomkins, I think they are first rate pictures. She sent father and mothers, they look as natural as ever. You said you thought I had ought to write to Meary. I suppose I had according to my promise but I kept putting it off till I was a shamed to write but I have finely wrote to her a bout two or three weeks a go. I would like to be thare a little while to visit her school. I shouldn’t wonder if she made a pretty good teacher. Maybe you dont believe I would like to visit your school individualy a little while. I would give much a one pence I think. I hope you will have a good time a going to school this spring and learn a good deal. I think it is a good chance if you have a good teacher. You will find Lamont a fast place. I guess they generly have a good school. I should like to go there this spring with you but I hope to go to school some of these days after the war is over. the 2nd cavelry is a going to start for home in a few days if they come this way which I think they will I guess I will send my overcoat home by Marvin. Marvin has lately by been promoted to Leiut. wonder if it will have as bad an efect on them (the 2d) as it did on our vettrons they most all got married. We expect them in a few days now I expect the mail will go out in a few minutes so I must stop writing Write son I am anxious to get letters if they aint but a few words excuse all erors and write soon good by for this time G.W.
