We have had very busy times here for the last half month. Have had lots of scouting and plenty of fighting.

Page 1 Camp East of Corinth Oct 15th 1863 Dear Father and Mother I have seated myself to write a few lines to you hoping that you may be injoying as good health as we do for we are in number 1 health Ike is getting better & so is Jim Ed has had the runs some but taking all things in consideration we are all right have seen something of war the day that the battle commenced at Corinth we had been out on a scout had just come from the west & we could hear the canon roar the Enemy had attacked us on the north sid about 4 or 5 miles from here

On our last scout we had some very warm times with the rebs we left here on the 3rd with 5 days rations the first night camped 20 miles from here near Barnums

Camp near Corinth Oct 3rd Dear Wife I have just two minutes & a half to write we have just come in from a camp about 15 min from here we have been out on a scout for the first time we had quite a time indeed 4 or 5 of the Co H was taken prisoners Rogers was taken he clerked in Smithes Store at Paw Paw. they were out about 5 miles from camp were attacked by the rebels & were ordered to dismount when the Cavalry came down on them

Corinth, Sept 28th 63 Dear Wife I received your letter last night & the first I have received from you since I left home you & mother seem to think that I have been negligent about writing this is all I have to say I have writen five letters home & if you have not got them I am not to blame the mail has been stoped for nearly 2 weeks on account of the pending battle with Grant & Price. Grant was fearful that Price might cut off the mail & thereby post him in regard to our position

Tenn Camp at Lagrange July the 28 Dear Friends as I have just come off from picket I thought I would write I should have wrote before but have been on picket every other day for three weeks and a fellow comes off from picket and he does not feel like writing much after being up all night. There is not much new but what there is favorable to us.

Lagrange July 15th 63 I received your kind letter the 13th & now as I have a few moments to spare will answer it When I last wrote Edwin was not very well but he is now returned to duty & is growing fat I received a letter from Mother & they were all well but Duane has a lame back R. C. Nyman has got home Now before I go any farther lets Hurah for Vicksburg, Port Hudson & the invasion of Lee in Pennsylvania & Morgan in Indiana for the first we have reason be glad that the fall of their strong hold did not make more of our men bite the dust
