Regiment: 3rd Michigan Cavalry Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: Sterling Price Oct Camp near Corinth 3rd Dear Wife I have just two minutes & a half to write we have just come in from a camp about 15 min from here we have been out on a scout for the first time we had quite a time indeed 4 or 5 of the Co H was taken prisoners Rogers was taken he clerked in Smithes Store at Paw Paw. they were out about 5 miles from camp were attacked by the rebels & were ordered to dismount when the Cavalry came down on them & took 22 horses & the men 5 in number but rogers got away from them quite nice they took him but his horse was scart & got away & he told them he had no arms but he had a revolver in his boots & when they werw after he took a french leave he pulled out his revolver & shot at the rebel & then run with all his might in the bushes & got away but did not get back untill the next day about 4 oclock. they are fighting not far off from here for we can hear the canon & musketry quite plain old Price is trying to come in to Corinth I presume we will have some fun within a few hours for our men were ordered to dism ount & leave the saddles on the horses & the boys are eating their breakfast I sent to you fiftenn dollars the other day & said I would send you some more this time but cant get the blue back the money I have is gold & silver the boys are all quite well I blieve Ike I have not seen him for 5 days he was getting better than you may think this is a short letter but it is better than none I have Recd 1 letter from & that is all I have got to close for we have orders to start M. H. Hogmire
