I have had the Ague & fever & been very sick but now I am all right Milan is in the Hospital But tell Aunt Evoline not to wory about him as he has got so he is around & haves the best of care this I know for I go & see him often But We lost one of the new recr uits yesterday Thomas Mussion of Lawrence died of Dysentery has had it ever since Lewis was here But now dont wory about Milan as he dont have it & he will be back in a few days to our Co Edwin is well & so is all the Boys But Dave he is not very well but is better than he was here let me say that Wallie Eckler & Churchil were taken Prisoner the other day not more than one mile from camp they were out in the woods getting out shakes to make our Winter Houses & 3 more of our boys without their arms with them & 10 Rebs came on them & told them to halt but all run but Eck & Churchil & they of course were taken prisoners & by this time I guess they will wish that runni ng was the thing the Rebs shot at them but did not hurt them We are now having old [ ? ] times scouting lots & lots to do Jane in your letter you seem to think that I Wrote rather abrupt about Writing But I only ment what I wrote so we will let that go now let me make a few excuses for Ed as he is out on a scout & cant answer for himself & When he comes in he will go & have that likeness taken & send it home to you all but dont look for it too soon for they are out on a 10 days scout & maybe not be in at that time You want to know what I do the letters you send me I keep them a long time until I get a lot & then have to burn them up but it makes me think of home you can belive you want to know how long I mustered in to the service for to tell the truth I have never mustered in yet that is in the United States Service & they cant hold me here I dont think if I should make a fuss about it but some think they can hold me until my 3 years is out but I have had good coun cil about it & they say that We will be mustered out when the Regt is but if We aint I can stand it you know about the young Smiley this I can say hope they may have an opportunity to be of more service to his country than his father now dont find fault of this but answer it & excuse all mistakes now give my best respects to all friends & now Jane accept the well wishes of M.
