Regiment: 3rd Michigan Cavalry Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: Camp near Jackson, Tenn. 14 Dear Jane I have a few moments to spare just now & will inform you of my health wich is good & so is all the rest of the boys we have just come in from a scout of 7 days & of course have not had a chance to write before & will have to be brief this morning as the mail goes in a few minutes I sent home by Bill Henry $100/$60 for my self & $40 for Ed it was a good chance he has got his disch arge he lives up near Uncle Bill Slocum was sorry to hear that little Trudy was sick but hope she will get along & you must send her likeness as soon as you can this is poor writing but you know I can do better in my next I tell you of our last [ ? ] Ed is going to write some so I will close give my best respects to all & live in hopes for my return & kiss little Trudy for me give little Earnest & Rena for me to Tell Tom Chasley & send my best wishes to him but would like to see him down here Yours truly M H Hogmire Camp near Jackson Tenn May 14 63 Dear Sister as Mitchell is a writing I thought I would write a few lines two we are well at present and I hope you are the same and little Trudy too I suppose Mitchell wrote all the news but I thought I would a few lines I wrote to you sometime ago in Mitchells leter and have not received any answer yet but live in hopes of one some time well Jane we went out on a scout with Colonel Moyers and Captain Pope and Captain Wier and [ ? ] Butler for the purpose of geting recruits for a ten regiment here and had a nice time for we went to Clarksburg and when we got there the sitizens had got corn and foder for our horses and had a picknic and Colonel Moyers spoke and it was just old [ ? ] the ladies sung and after speaking they throwed boquets at him and I throwed one at a young lady and it was all right well Jane I will close for this time so good bye write soon. from Ed. I have wrote two leters to Trude and have not see any and I shall not write again would you if she is not a mind to answer them she need not not
