About the Author
William Painter, of Pontiac, Michigan, enlisted as a Sergeant in the 22nd Michigan Infantry Company D on August 5, 1862. He was mustered into service at the age of 27 on August 14. Painter was listed as being wounded on September 20, 1863 at Chickamauga, Georgia. He was wounded in his leg causing it to be amputated. William Painter died of his wounds on October 26. He was buried at the National Cemetery in Chattanooga, Tennessee at gravesite No. 1109.Documents for this Author:
