Regiment: 22nd Michigan Infantry Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: Nashville Tennessee July 13 Dear Wife As I was writing to Abby I thought I would like to writ a few lines to you to let you know that am Still Well and I assure you that I wash much obliged to Abby for writing to me You must Must give her my Sincere thanks for I always like to hear from home Some times when I am lonesom it makes a man feel as if hee had some one to care for him and that thought of him When far from home and induring they Burning sun I often think of they time when I shall bee permitted to return home to you and little Abbey again Dear Hannah you must take good care of your Self and litte abbey for I trust they day is not far Distance when Every man will bee permited to Return to thare Beloved famleys and homes But I cant tell how long it will bee First the news is faverable to they federal arms in all quarters latley But I supose Some of they Boys are afraid of being Conscripted into they armey But if this war has got to Bee ended By fighting they sumer they better and if it is my lot to fall on they field I hope God will Protect you and little Abby Thare is one thing serten ifi am killd in this War I shall Die in Defending our Government and they Constituion that our four fathers purched with thar Blod But I trust I may withstand they bloody conflict and Bee among they ones to return Our Regiment is doing Provost Guard Duty in this City But I canot Say how long We shall remain heare Peter and Freeman Roachbacher are both Well and send thare best wished to you June fransco uncle Loran Daughters Husband is hear in they tenth Regiment they boys of his Company say bee makes a good Soldier I saw John Chamberlan a few days ago hee is well and sends his respects to you all George owne is till sick but hee is gaining Slowly But hee looks very thin George was is Well and tough hee sends his respects to you all I supose you had a nice time of it on they Fourth of July Abby said you went to a Picnic with Phelps folks But I wash Celabrating they fourth a marching through they streets ofNashville and it hot enufto scald a niger and after marching through all they principal Streets wee marched to a grave one mile and a half West of the City and heard a Speech and they Declaration of Indipendance Read We then marched back to our Camp Ware our colonel had prepared four barrals of lemonhead at his owen expence and Ice in it I asure you they boys was glad to see it for they was very thirsty after marching through they Burning Sun and in full dress Now I want to know if you have received they box I sent you and I am informed that they ten dollars I sold you would Bee left to Stanlakes Was sent up thare this week if you have Received it Please inform me right away for I feel anchus concerning them I have no more at present so Good By and God Bless you I still Remain you Affacnate Husband William Painter
