About the Author
Captain Albert M. Edwards (b. February 25, 1836) was 26 years old when he enlisted in the 1st Michigan Infantry Company F on April 16, 1861 at Adrian, Michigan. He was mustered into service on May 1. Edwards was taken prisoner on July 21 at Bull Run, Virginia and was exchanged on May 20, 1862. He was discharged on that same day. On August 15, he was mustered into the 24th Michigan Infantry Company F. Edwards was transferred from Company F to Field and Staff on February 1, 1864. He received several promotions including: Major, November 22, 1863; Lieutenant Colonel, June 9, 1864; and, Colonel by Brevet, March 13, 1865. Edwards commanded the regiment from July 1863 to February 1864 and then again from January 25, 1865 to March 1865. He was discharged from service on June 30 at Detroit, Michigan. Albert M. Edwards died on July 15, 1909 in Detroit, Michigan and is buried there in the Woodmere Cemetery.Documents for this Author:
