Dear Capt.
The Dr. forbids all extra
use + strain of either eye but this
[ ? ] my
anxiety to hear from the Regt. nor so great as
to lead one to break this order + send this
line of querie to you.
My leave from Baltimore I supposed
unlimited as to time as the document read
has been interpreted as
[ ? ] but 20 or
[ ? ] day before yesterday I mailed to L Thomas
a G Nash Dr
[ ? ] Certificate of my
inability for duty in the field for
I have the duplicate CVertificate in
my pessession as I understand that
I keep this as my voucher in case the
other
[ ? ] be lost
I presume if this is not OK I shall
hear from it- if it is for
from
[ ? ] notifiscation of further ex-
tension of my time as I have nothing
further to do
As yet I see nothing with my right
eye + can only use the left at intervals
I have not been out of the house but
once since my return + then only for
half an hour – keep in a darkened
room or
[ ? ] with frequent bleeding
to reduce inflammation neither read
write nor excercise except by stealth
My recovery must be slow as my
short experience teaches me this fact
I wish to know of my horses +
effects generally – I hear
is using the former – all right –
Ask him to write me of them +
of Henry (my
[ ? ]) whether he
is with him or not – I
[ ? ] some
money from
[ ? ] to the Chaplain
to bury him
[ ? ] tobacco etc.
Did he ever receive it?
I want my valise badly + if
it can be sent me without
