Dear Colonel
I have seen Gen’l Robertson
today, he has telegraphed to the War
Dept and will receive our answer
tomorrow. In case the answer is
favorable I will remain here but
if not I shall return to Springfield
by the day train
I did not intend waiting so long but
thought it useless to return with-
out accomplishing something. Col.

thought I had better stay here at

but I do not like the idea of being
here recruiting without proper authority – all
I care for is to get men enough so that
we can muster if we should be fortunate
enough to get our commissions
