Baker, George W.

About the Author

At the age of 23, George W. Baker enlisted in the 1st Michigan Infantry Company H on April 20, 1861 at Ypsilanti, Michigan. He was mustered into service on May 1. Baker was listed as a prisoner of war at Bull Run, Virginia on July 21 and was later exchanged. On My 20, 1862, he was discharged from service. He re-enlisted in the 4th Michigan Cavalry on January 19, 1864 at Canton, Michigan and was mustered into service on January 29. He was listed as joining his regiment on February 28 at Nashville, Tennessee. On April 3, Baker was transferred from Company C to Company D. George W. Baker was discharged from service on August 15, 1865 at Edgefield, Tennessee. He lived in Dansville, Michigan after the war.
