Sherman Hd Qrs 7th Mich Cav Camp Russell Va Feb 21st 1865 Dear folks at home – I arrived here in camp about 3 P.M. to day – found every thing all lovely – some few arrived yesterday and some havent got here yet I left Baltimore yesterday Monday at 3-30 p.m. I stoped in Harpers ferry last night – There is about four inches of snow – here – Today has been moderate – thawed considerable The glorious news from Sherman – is so good that I cant help laughing – [          ?          ] Charleston Columbia S.C. Found Frank all right The Dr you know got an “extension” of 20 days – I was down and seen W- [  ?  ] he is fat as ever Tis now about 8 o clock evening – [  ?  ] bunck – what cheering perfectly deafening some more news- Smith has gone out to see what is up – Well tis this – The Stars & Stripes floats over Fort Sumpter = three cheers[  ?  ] seemed like home get back here again although I hope the war will soon be over – and then I’ll not stay here much longer I hear that the draft is postponed untill the 8th of march Dr U [  ?  ] is well – I hear cheering in my direction. I found a detail waiting for me – to report for duty at the Division Hospital – I shall probably go there tomorrow – I had just as soon stay here – but then that is a good place. I found my horse all right I wish I had some of their oistus I couldent eat over [  ?  ] donation party I got three dozen oistus in Baltimore yesterday for 25 cts thats the place for such things – As I sayed before I am feeling well – my Diarrhora has left me and I [          ?          ] colds swing back I write any more to night = will waite untill some futeuir time and then give you a long letter. Give my respects to friends I wrote you a letter last Sunday at Harrisburg PA I presume you will get that by tomorrow. Write soon – I found a couple of letters here from you – but they were a little behind the times Good by – Hope to hear from you soon – All right Back again and so the world goes on. From Bud
