Mr. Potter
Dear Sir:
In all this time I have
been unable to learn any more facts concerning
your son Charles I have heard several times from
the Regts and written in particular about him
but can learn nothing satisfactory. Hempstead,
Orderly of our Co (now a Lt) writes me that he has
heard nothing more of him. You are aware that
the Regt is not now in the Dep. where they were
when Charley was missing. It is now, or was a
few days ago, at Cleveland Tenn. and expecting
every day to start for home. I have just learned
the whereabouts of the Express Box you sent to Charley.
It was sent
sent on to Murfreeboro. 30 miles from
here. I have sent for it and expect it in a few days,
when it arrives I will send the clothes back to
you. I shall not probably come home with the Regt
as I am detailed on duty here at this Cavl. Depot
Am acting as Adjutant at present but a request
has been forwared by the Genl for me to be
detailed a Quartermaster at this past & if the Col.
does not object I shall get the position. If I do
not take it I shall probably come home with the
Regt Wing Agnew is at this camp. Cap. Johnston
is also here on duty. No exciting news from the
front. Rumor says our Div. of Cavl. is ordered to
the Potomac. In haste,
Your Obdt Servt
R. T. Darrow
