About the Author
Corporal Samuel M. Holton of Battle Creek, Michigan enlisted in the 2nd Michigan Infantry Company C at the age of 24 on May 10, 1861 in Battle Creek. He was mustered into service on May 25. On June 25, 1862, Holton was captured at Savage’s Station, Virginia and was exchanged on October 30. He was attached to the 17th Michigan Infantry on January 30, 1864 and was returned on April 9. His promotions included: Hospital Steward; Assistant Surgeon, April 20; and, Surgeon, March 11, 1865. Samuel M. Holton was discharged on July 28 at Delaney House, Washington, D.C. and returned to Battle Creek, Michigan.Documents for this Author:
