My dear Sam
I have just recieved your letter
and I find to my great surprise that I have
the last Annual Return and also the Invoice
of Medicines received at Annapolis I now send
you a copy of each The list of Medicines
received from Brigade Wagon from time to time this year
you will find in the black book I used to carry
about which was left with the regiment and I
suppose is in the box in the wagon. Jerome knows
about it. I am not quite sure whether you
will have to add those things but you can easily
find out. There is also a list of things which
Cleland got out of some medicines that were coming
to the 8th Michigan while we were at Strawberry
Plains East Tenn. I don’t think you need
include them unless the Surgeon of the 8th wishes it
as there was no invoice or receipt given for them
that i can remember
That i believe is all you have to account for
The list of things left at Alexandria is also in that
black book I believe most of them could
be returned as expendid with the sick unless
perhaps a Bale and some blankets for then I suppose
you would Love to send in an affidavit of Jerome that
he stored then there and could get no receipt and was
obliged to store them for want of transportation
The affidavit to be sworn to send certificates of anything
that was condemned
I hope you will keep a copy of the Return just
as you send it in and of every paper you send
with it It may be necessary for me to
clear up my accounts.
If you find anything wanting that cannot be
put down as Espendid or accounted for in any other
way I suppose you will have to return it as last
and send in a certificate to that affect
You will find a list it the Medicine
wagon of all they Medicine issued to us this
year I must close now to save a post
