About the Author
Born in 1841 and from Cooper, Michigan, 20 year old Carey Forbes enlisted in the 1st Michigan Cavalry Company I on August 21, 1861 in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He was mustered into service on September 7 and he later re-enlisted on February 2, 1864. On March 6, Forbes was transferred from Company I to Company B. He was taken prisoner at Trevillian Station, Virginia on June 11. Carey Forbes died of scurvy on August 29 at Andersonville, Georgia. He is buried at Andersonville National Cemetery in Andersonville, Georgia at gravesite #7171.Documents for this Author:
