Regiment: 1st Michigan Cavalry Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: 1861 Camp [       ?       ] 1 Dear Parents I have just received your kind letter dated October 27 and was glad to hear from home once more. last Wednesday I received 6 letter’s that wer directed to Camp Lyon too from you one from Orla one from Arbelia one from Orr[  ?  ] folks one from Hannah [  ?  ] I think that liberty street must be in som thing of an excitement after such [  ?  ] a performance as that. I never would have fooled a round like that I would either get married or not. I think the last letter you sent to Camp Logan was quite pleasing. You wanted to know what kind of a thing our uniform is and sword the latter we hav not got but expect them soon I will not writing any thing about any of them this now time for you wanted to know what kind of horse I had got and every thing els, but just as soon as we get our horse and arms I will write a letter that will take you a week to read. Nahum has been sick with the measels but is better now there is a great deal of sickness in camp but I never was heathly in my life than at present I enjoy Camp life better the longer I stay. Orlando is not very well has got a cold and it has settled on his lungs. I do not sleep very warm we shall get our over- coats in a few days then it will be better when you write next time do not for get to write that [  ?  ] news about Frank H. M. Last week there was a man died in Company B he complained at noon of not feeling well and was excused from duty in the night he was then taken bleeding at the lungs and bleed until he got faint as was supposed and got up to go out but did not get farther than the the where he fell his tent door where he fell or at least the next morning when the men that wer in the tent with him woke they saw him lying just out of the door they went out to see what the matter was and to their supprise found him dead he had a wife and one child at home I must close they letter for it is most time for the mail is nearly ready to go out tell Frank Forbes that he had better write to me if he expects to live long I have got Charles letter and answered it long ago Write soon Carey Forbes [On Envelope:] Mr Solomon Forbes Kalamazoo Michigan
