Hd Quarter 1st Mich Cavalry [  ?  ]  July 28th 1863

Colonel C. H. Town Commanding Brigade Sir I respectfully recommend as worthy of promotion Sergeant James B. Lyon of this regiment. He merits promotion for universal good conduct and [  ?  ] bravery in many actions. He particularly distinguished himself in the action near Falling Waters [  ?  ] July 1863 by rushing together with sergeant Chilson far to the front of our skirmishes and capturing a Rebel major who surrendered to him his whole command (56 men) and the battle flag of the 47th VA Infty.
