About the Author
Captain Melvin Brewer enlisted in the 1st Michigan Cavalry Company L on August 9, 1861 at Almont, Michigan. He was mustered into service on August 22. He was promoted to Major on January 1, 1862. On June 6, 1864, Brewer was commissioned as a Lieutenant Colonel of the 7th Michigan Cavalry. He was wounded on June 11 at Trevillian Station, Virginia and later wounded at Winchester, Pennsylvania on September 19. Melvin Brewer died of his wounds on September 25.Documents for this Author:
