Regiment: 5th Michigan Cavalry Battles Mentioned: Trevilian Station, Virginia Historical Figures: Camp 5 Mich Cavalry July 15th 1864 Miss Hutchins Excuse me for being so bold as to write to you. Adelbert Hatten left your Potograph & one of your letters with one of our boys. I thought I would write & send them to you & let you know what became of him. He was taken Prisner at Trivillian Station. I saw him a few minnets before he was taken. He was taken in a charge. We lost a good many men thare. Our Co, went into the fight with twenty nine men & came out with ten. We lost nineteen men. We lost in the Regiment, one hundred & sixty four men in that fight. They wer mostly prisners. We have had some vary hard fighting this summer & last summer to. I have been in all of them. We are in Camp on the James River near Sity Point now. It is a plesant place but we wont stay here long. It is vary dry here. They is some fireing allong the line evry day. The Rebs are in Mariland now. I wish they would let us go thare after them but I suppose they want us here worse. I had a notion to keep your Photograph but I thought you wouldnt like it. You must excuse this. I would like to hear from you vary mutch. Yours with respect Sergeant Alonzo M. Wolaver Co.
