Miss Hutchings
Yours of the 20 is at hand & I take this opertunity to answer it.
I am well & at City Point now waiting to take the Boat for Washington. Our
Division is loding now. I espect we are a going thare to help to drive the
Rebels out of Maryland. You will hear from Mich. Briggade a gain soon
if you take the papers. We have had a good many hard fights this summer &
lost a good many men. I have ben in evry fight that our Regiment has been
in but thank the Lord I am all right yet. They is fighting a long the line
more or less evry day. They is a good many lives lost here. I suppose you
have hurd of the blowing up of a fort at Petersburg. That is 5 miles from
here. I dont know whare Adelbert is. I havent hurd from him since he was
taken Prisner. I suppose the young folks thare have some good times. I would
like to be thare but we have a little job to finish first. I have one year
to stay in the Service yet before my time is out. It is very warm & dry here
this summer. I have had some good times on Grand River & your neighborhood. I
am in hopes those times will come once more. I expect they are all a geting
married out thare but I guess they will be some of the Girles left for the
Soldiers when they get home. I hope ere long the time will come that they wont
need any more Soldiers. I must close. Give my love to all inquireing friends
Yours truly Sergt. A.M. Wolaver
