Regiment: 7th Michigan Cavalry Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: Hugh J. Kilpatrick Camp near Stephenburg Va. Apr 1st 1864 Aunt Della Yours of March 6th I recd. the 18th after I got around from our Raid or Kilpatrick’s great Raid toward Richmond. You probably saw an account of it in the papers. I was in deed verry sorry to hear such news as you had to tell me. That is the way we all must go sooner or later and all that is required of us is to be prepared. Today is a cold rainy day, but I am not on duty so I am all right on that score. Yesterday the paymaster made his appearance. We all liked his looks verry much. And today paper, envelopes, pens, and ink are in good demand. Go like hot cakes. I am verry much obliged to you for your information in regard to Uncle Martin although he is so far off I cannot see him. I was also glad to hear from Lenora. I have not heard from her before since she was at Hillsdale Mich. She must be quite a gal by this time. If I may be allowed the expression. I should be glad to hear from her as often as she may favor me with a letter. And will try to answer them to the best of my ability. Whare is her post office address? She said she was going away to work after school closed. Whare is Rosetta? And Nelson? &c. Perhaps I am rather inquisitive. But it is natural for me. I have had one letter from Aunt Philena since I have been in the service. But it was a long time ago. So if she continues to write that way I shant get another before my time is out, which will be one year from the 13th of Nov. next. I hear from home frequently, they were all well when I last heard from them. Well Della, I cannot think of anything of interest to write. So if you think of anything that will interest you, just mention it, and I will tell you all I can about it. Well I had some bread and butter today. Quite a treat I’ll assure you down here. But I used to get it frequently when at home with Mother. It is 5 years the 15th of this month since I have seen any of my folks. When I left I told them I would be back in the course of a year. It’s a long year I tell you. Hoping to hear from you as often as convenient, I close with respects to all enquiring friends. Yours truly A. H. Weston Co. B. 7th Mich Cavalry Washington DC This is the third letter I have written today.
