Regiment: 5th Michigan Infantry Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: Camp Near Petersbury Oct the 17th 1864 Friend frank your letter came to hand in due time and was very glad to hear from you I received that tobbaco that you sent and am a thousand times oblige to you for it Anos Button got his all right to and he wrote to you yesterday but as I was on guard I did not have time to do so well [ ? ] when I get paid g .g again I will send you money and have you send me tobacco every week and then I will not have to carry it if we should happen to march far at a time The regiment is not more then fourty rods from the place that they were when you left the regiment but we have moved around since that the boys in the camp are all well and in good health at present and all send their love to you and would like to hear from you but they can hear from you by the way of button and me well ruge the regiment has not been engaged since you left the company and there has not been any killed on picket the regiment is learger then it was when the campagn commerreed Right before our men took seven tons of powder out from under fort warren the fort to the right of the old house that we used to picket by the mine was completed and before long the rebels will come down on us and get fooled nicely I am going to send to Detroit and get robinson and brooks to collect that hundred dollars bounty for me and then you will get paid for that tobacco that you sent to me and I will send some money and have you send me a half pound once a week well rufe I will close by biding you good bye write soon and receive this from your friend Chauncy Torrey to E R Frank Good bye
