About the Author
Chauncy Torrey, of Macomb County, Michigan, enlisted as a Private in the 5th Michigan Infantry Company B on August 28, 1861 at Fort Wayne, Michigan. He was mustered into service that same day at the age of 19. Torrey was listed as being wounded at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania on July 2, 1863. He re-enlisted on January 4, 1864 and was promoted to Sergeant on June 28, 1865. Chauncy Torrey was discharged on July 5 at Jeffersonville, Indiana.Documents for this Author:
