Regiment: 23rd Michigan Infantry Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: Lebanon, KY August 6, A.D., 1863 Well, Hiram I got your letter the 5th and was glad to hear from you and Hellen. I am well at the present time. Well sir times is very good with me now. The longer I stay in the war the better I like it so I will take it as easy as I can. Hiram, it is too bad for W’m B. to have so much trouble about my old clothes and trunk. Well if he goes to preaching for his living I hope he will do well at it. Well Hiram if you can’t get the trunk and things without making fuss about them I want you to let them go to the Devil. I have rote to him about the things and if he don’t do what I told him to do with the things I will talk to him if I ever get home. Well, Hiram I can’t think of any thing more to write this time. I wrote a letter to you the 3rd day of this month so I will close my short letter for this time. You must excuse my bad writing and spelling. I send my best respects to all friends if you can read this. If she is married I want to know it. I got a letter from her and she did not say a word about it, but I don’t think it is so. If it is & she don’t say a word about it to me well Hellen speak a good word for me and I will send my likeness to you this time. Hellen you must excuse me for not sending my likeness.
