About the Author
Peter Russell (b. 1841), of Lebanon, Michigan, enlisted as a Private in the 23rd Michigan Infantry Company G on August 13, 1862 at St. John’s, Michigan. He was mustered into service at the age of 21 on September 12. Russell was taken prisoner on November 10, 1863 at Lenoir, Tennessee. Peter Russell died a prisoner of war on April 3, 1864 at Andersonville, Georgia. He was buried at Andersonville National Cemetery gravesite 324.Documents for this Author:
