Absent Sister
I take this opertunity to write
a few lines this evening
to you to let you know that
we are but well and hope you
the same we have prtty good
times here I worked yesterday
on the quarters for the officers
I worked a while this morning
then we went down town to drill
the parade ground being to icy
to drill on we have not drilled
much lately it has been either
muddy or icy most of the time
Erastus is on guard to night
he was put on to fill the place
of one of our men that got so
drunk that he could stand
I have not been on regular
guard but twice since I have
been here I was on standing
patrol guard about two
weeks it was the hardest
work that I have had since
I have
had since been here
we had to town and all about
the camp to pick up all the men
that we coul dthat did not have
a pass and bring them to Camp
some nights we would not
get in til midnight some times
we would hardly get to
bed before some one would
run the guard and then we
would be called on again
we have not had but two
letters since we have been
here one was from mary
the other from Uncle Lyman
I have loked for an answer
from the one I wrote to you
but I have not received any yet
I do not think I shal
come home before the first
of march and it may after that time
before I shal get a chance
as I have a poor place to
write to night I guess I will stop
write as soon as you get this
