Regiment: 8th Michigan Cavalry Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: Camp Stocton Apr 8th/63 Dear Sister I received your letter this morning and was glad to hear from you Erastus is well I have got a very bad cold and am excused from duty to day we had some fresh fish for breakfast monday morning Erastus and two of our Company went to lake St Clair Sunday they found a canoe bottom sideup they raised it up and found two big pickerel they brought them to camp on their way back they caught one in the edge of the river Nell has got to be a pretty hard boy he likes whisky to well for his own good orders has come to march next week we are to be paid off before we go we expect to go to kentucky you wanted I should write what the letter of our Company it is not lettered yet but it will be likely to be A I will write when it is established we may go through Battle Creek when we go if we do I will write just before we start my head aches so hard I shal have to stop writing yours in the cause of liberty From Robert Rogers To Helen Rogers
