Dear Sister,
I received yours of the 26th this morning and was glad to hear that you was well.
My health is not very good now. I have a bad cough and have been laid up for about two
weeks with a gathering in my head. It broke last Saturday. It is getting some better now.
Erastus is well he has fine times riding horses now. The men have not drawned their
horses to keep yet each company has some of all, colors to take care of and drill with now
but when the horses are all bought each Co. will have horses of one color. Our company
got their letter night before last it is the letter A the health of the Regiment is pretty good
here now with the exception of colds and gatherings in the head. We have had very dry
and warm weather here this spring. The grass looks green and the leaves begin to start. I
can’t tell yet when we will leave here but we will be likely to go sometime next month
perhaps about the middle we are to as soon as we can get ready. We are to go to General
Burnsides division of the army. We got a letter from Louisa and Mary yesterday. Louisa
says she is a going to work on the farm this summer. Mary said she was not very well. I
have had one letter from Uncle Lyman’s folks since we got back they were all well. My
head roars so I can’t think of much to write.
Write as soon as you get this. Direct to Co. A. 8th Regt. Mich. Cavalry Mt. Clemens,
Mich. Yours in the cause of liberty from your brother Robert to Helen Rogers
