Camp Stocton Apr 17th/63
Dear sister we received yours
of the twelth and
and one from
Ann & Louisa yesterday morning
and was glad to hear that you
were all well we are both well
Erastus wrote home yesterd so
I will write to you to day
we have got our guns to drill
with they are seven shooters
and look as though they would
do firstrate service the
Horses begin to come in now
they had acceped sixty four
last night and they keep
coming in all the time
you wanted to know what
I thought of our new Brothers
I like their appearance pretty
well so far as I have seen yet
and I say if the girls suit
themselves they will me
but I suppose they are
not likely to our Brothers
very soon the times are
pretty goo here the soldiers
have spent a good deal of
money but they are getting
pretty short now they are
getting anxious for to be paid
off I think you would be of
more use at home than here
for you can help take care
of them that is at home
better than you could there
here there is but very few
sick here now Nell has been
a great deal soberer lately than
he was it is one of the worst
of places in Camp for drunken-
-ness that I ever saw they have
caught two of the deserters of
our Company and one come back
we will not be likely to leave
here til some time in may
we will be likely to go
on a special train when
we go if I find out in time
I will write and let you know
when we go I feel as though
I was ready to do my duty for
my country my God and
myself come what may
write often for it is cheering
to hear from the loved ones
at home if the friend and
relation of the soldiers would
write oftener it would be
a help to many
Yours in the cause of liberty

Broter Robert Rogers
