Regiment: 2nd Michigan Cavalry Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: Braxton Bragg, Don C. Buell, William Nelson Louisville, Ky. Sept 25th 1862 Dear Father I take this opportunity to write a few lines to you to inform you of my health and of the rest of the Boys also. my health is very good at present, the rest of the boys are all well accept Wing & Chan they are. in the Hospital yet but I do not know where they are now we left them at Cincinnati last week & then we started for Louisville again arrived here last Friday & then left him again on Sunday we have been on the trott for a week evry day. we get back to this place last night with a few prisnors which we took at a place called Elisabeth town Some fifty miles south of Louisville they were new recruit that had just enlisted and were drilling at this that twon. the Ladies gave each one of us a flag when we came in we took their Secesh flag off from the court- house and fetched it into Louisville with us. we had fine time coming up the river. the women and Children have all been ordered across the river they expect old Bragg will pitch in to this place evry day I hope he will for if he does he will get whiped like the devil. Nelson is here with a large force & Buel is in Braggs rear & now we are only waitin for him to come on, we heard that Ira Hutchinson was dead he was left at Corinth when we left there the last time I saw Wing & Chan they were getting along finely. our camp is in the city of Louisville I went down twon to day & went in a foundry I’ll be danged if it dident make me home sick. we just got orders to put five days rations in our [  ?  ] sacks and be ready for another tramp. Chancy Hayes has been a little sick had the Ague it has been two weeks or more since I have heard from home. I hope this letter will fetch an answer their hasent been any mail for this regiment now for some time the 21st & 23rd Mich Reg are camped closed to us. I hope the 23th will come this way if Charley Burt had only enlisted in this regiment I think he would have done much better. Darrow & Hayes likes cavelry first rate they dont have too drill evry day when they are not fighting as Infantry does. excuse poor writing for I am lying down on my belly on the grass & doing the best I can, give my love to all. a kiss to the little ones.
