Regiment: 2nd Michigan Cavalry Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: Camp Benton Sunday                  Feb 17th 1862 Dear Father I received your letter yesterday afternoon with that box of things and was very glad to hear from home. the boys are all well as can be expected I have got a bad cold & so has some the other boys. those boots fit just as nice as any one could wish they are just long enough and fit good the boys say I beat them all on boots. I like mine better than I do wings. our boots came just in time for we expect to leave here in a day or two. the third Regt Artillery went this morning & the second had orders to march & was already to go & one of the Lieut shot one of his men so they havent gone yet I dont know what the trouble is. our Regiments is making all preparations for leaving we shall go this week some time. we wentdown to the City yesterday & got 400 more of those Rifles. the 3rd Artillery left for Fort Donalson. perhapps that is when we shall go. we have got a new jackett & pants & a pair of mittens each one of us they are better cloths than the first ones. they are to work covering all of our wagons & mending evry strap that is broken and furnishing evry thing that is Lacking the suttler is packing up to day. Some of the company are packing up some old things that they are going to send home. it wories Henry F to think he is not well enough to ride he says he will be well enough but he wont. I dont know as there is anything more to write this time give my love to all. I hope these few lines will mother well & all the rest of you write soon and direct here for we may not learn as soon as we think we shall Hurrah for Fort Donalson Charles H. Potter
