Dear Father
I received
your letter yesterday
afternoon with that box
of things and was very
glad to hear from home.
the boys are all well as
can be expected I have got
a bad cold & so has some
the other boys. those boots
fit just as nice as any
one could wish they
are just long enough
and fit good the boys
say I beat them all on
boots. I like mine better
than I do wings.
our boots came just
in time for we expect
to leave here in a day
or two. the third Regt
Artillery went this morning
& the second had orders
to march & was already
to go & one of the Lieut
shot one of his men
so they havent gone yet
I dont know what the
trouble is. our Regiments
is making all preparations
for leaving we shall go
this week some time.
we wentdown to the
City yesterday & got 400
more of those Rifles.
the 3
rd Artillery left for
Fort Donalson. perhapps that
is when we shall go. we
have got a new jackett
& pants & a pair of mittens
each one of us they
are better cloths than
the first ones. they are
to work covering all of
our wagons & mending
evry strap that is broken
and furnishing evry thing
that is Lacking the suttler
is packing up to day.
Some of the company are
packing up some old things
that they are going to send
home.
it wories Henry F
to think he is not well
enough to ride he says
he will be well enough
but he wont. I dont
know as there is anything
more to write this time
give my love to all. I
hope these few lines will
mother well & all the
rest of you write soon
and direct here for we
may not learn as soon
as we think we shall
Hurrah for Fort Donalson
