Dear Colonel
I find that I have
greatly misunderstood you or that you
are entirely wrong with regard to the
paper you desire.
You directed me to
procure for you the Washington Army and
Navy Journal. After the necessary enquiring
I discover that no such paper is print-
-ed in the district. Now is it possibly
that you coned have meant the N.Y.
Army & Navy Journal the only sheet of the
kind printed in the United States
The Evening
I received your orders upon the subject
I was greatly under the influence of
[ ? ]. Consequently was not accountable
for
[ ? ] & if you will be kind
enough to let me know if I have made
an Error I will he only to glad to rectify
it. The $250 I will retain until I hear from
you again.
I arrived in camp day before
yesterday & found all glad to see me
The General is away on twenty days
leave I saw him in Washington
& he wished me to remain with him
until the expiration of his time which
would be until the middle of February
but my gold market being extremely
low I couldent see it
The army is
lying inactive with no immediate
prospects. The Regiments are all reenlisting
The fourth go home the first of the
month. A greater portion of them having
reenlisted. Sumbard & one or two more
officers will accompany the remanant.
I have been unfortunate
enough to loose my fine brea mare
during my absence. She died suddenly
without apparent cause.
Write me soon
for I feel chagrined about the paper
affair Believe me Yours Entirely to
Command
