Regiment: 5th Michigan Infantry Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: Fort Wayne January 30th /64 Well Julia it is Saturday afternoon and time that I let you know where I was and how I was I am well and hope this [  ?  ] find you and Fred better then you were when I left we had a pleasant time a getting here and it is pleasant here and nothing to do and plenty to eat tonight George Elliott myself and some of the Howell Boys have gotto go on guard wont that be good for us we need alittle exersise and probably we will get it soon I want you and Florance to write as soon as you get this I want Florance to write and tell me how Hiram gets along it rained last night and it has rained some today but I hope it wont to night but we are onley on two hours and off four and I am good for that [  ?  ] I Julia you must look to the sheep a little and have pa salt them once a week when the ground is bare and have him chop that wood and I will make it right with him tell hiram to write as soon as he gets able give my respects to father and mother Fewlass and Father and mother Carwell and all enquiring Friends and tell them to write tell Harriett she must be a good girl takes good care of yourself and Freddy It is getting late and and I wanto send this to the city this afternoon So good afternoon for this time.
