Regiment: 2nd Wisconsin Infantry Battles Mentioned: Bull Run, Virginia Historical Figures: Dear Sister, I now take my pen in hand to let you know that I am well and I hope that these few lines will find you the same This Flag shall wave over ‘Sumpter’ or may [ ? ]            I am living a soldiers life and I shall be a soldier until the flag of our union waires our the south. If I live that long, I will fight for the stars and stripes as long as I live, Dear sister you must excuse me for not writing before I whant to see you so much Dear, sister tell sister, samantha that I whant to see[ ? ]to verry much tell her that i would like to have hur write to me and you most write to me to. I went up to the camp of the Connetict Regiment to see Agostus this morning and he is well and we were so glad to see each other Dear sister you do not know how happy I was to see our Dear brother Agostus, you do not know the joy that swelld to my hart when I first saw our Dear, Brother, we have had a fight and the southerners whiped us out but I dont think they will again. I have not got time to write the pertickerls of the fight if I had time I would write and tell you all about it, Agustus, and I are safe and will at present, we expect to have another fight to morrow, Dear sister if I live to get back a live I will come and see you but if I get killed Dear sister you must pray for my poor soul, and if I [ ? ] you may know that I died a fighting for my country, Dear sister will you please write to sister Samantha and tell her that I am well and I would write to her but I have not got time to Dear sister I would send you my likiness but I cant get it taken you write to Agustus to tell me to send my likeness and send you a lock of my hair I will send you a lock of my hair but it is very short because I have had it shingled lately but I will send a lock of it to you Dear sister [   ?   ] it is you Dear sister you must excuse me bad writing and spelling for I have no place to write except I sit on the ground and use a board for a writing desk you must not expect that I shall write good or spell wright I dont know whether you can read this scribling or not tell Uncles folks that I send my love to them all Dear, sister I wish that you could send me your likeness I would send you mine but I cant get it taken I would like to see you once more to see if you loock as you did when I saw you last that was a long time ago was it not Dear sister you most forgive me for not writing to you before I would write to you often but I do not have time to write to any one now days, so you must write to me whether I write to you or not I will write to you as often as I can Dear sister I must draw my letter to a close so good by at present Dear sister this is from Geo.
