McClellan [Union Image]    October the 25, 1861 Head Quarters Washington DC Camp benton maryla land Dear mother I sit me down to answer your leter that I recived this morning and was very glad to hear from you and to hear that you was well and doing well I am well at preaseant I hope these few lines will find you the same I will tell you some news perhaps you will hear of it before you get this we was called out last sunday to cross the river but we did not do it untill monday our batery played on them but they did not return the fite monday we had quite a batle on monday thare was a good many of our troops killed but none of our regiment this week has been a sene of blood they have been fighting every and night i inst not hopen to be in the batle for the reason that I was deatailed for guard on monday morning and have been till this morning and I feel about wan out we could hear the cannons boom last night there was a heavy batle up the river from here our regiment came back wednesday in the night they look as if they had a hard time they was advance pickets our the potomac river there a heavy batle there but rise from the rebels then the union troops crossed back this side of the river and drawed their atention [ ? ] to this point while general Mcclellan crossed the [ ? ] here then he will come down behind them while our troops here will keep them from crossing the river down I here we have got the rebel surrounded so they can not get away we have a first [ ? ] now [ ? ] is to wayne Co mich he was well and doing well but Mr Stevensons folks came to camp monroe the day before we started and they said that George had not been there so I do not know where he is tell melaina that the oficer docs not read the leters so she can write to me Johnathan Chrysttar got too leters from home this morning and miss Chrysttar said that was the reason that she did not write Johnathan is well and likes it first rate we have a plenty of clothes and blankets so you nead not weary about me in that respect no more this time write as soon as you get this tell selainas to send me some postage stamps and I will send some money as I get it So good bye from your son Albert M Morey
