William Slants came to see him and he feels pretty good he dident know that they was here
but they are in the same brigade and Division that we are in and bin with us for pretty
near two weeks but we Dident know it since I last wrote to you We have done some pretty
hard fighting the Rebles made three heavv charges on us the ninth in the night and we
repulsed them every time on the forenoon of the tenth there was heavy Skirmshing on the
left and center of our lines and about noon the Rebles tried to flank us on the left at half
past twelve oclock all our men was called into action and the fight lasted about six hours
and the enemy commenced retreating after being badly licked fireing ceaced and night
came on and the next morning there wasent a Reble to be seen but while they was at it they
fought Desperately but we was to meny for them there loss was pretty heavey In killed and
wounded while our was but small compared with there loss in killed and wounded in our
regt dident exceed twenty in all our loos in all wont Excede two hundred & fifty killed and
wounded the Rebles took some of our men prisoners but a good meny of them got away
from them we took a good meny more prisoners from them and they did from us three to
one I think the next place that we have to take is Kingston this fight was within three miles
of there but I think the rebles will Avacuate the place and leave it before we get there old
Sherman is a coming up in the rear of them that what made them come out here to fight us
