Captain Edwards!
Sir: I do here by notify you, and to
let you know where I am. I am in Baltimore
and treated very well. The ladies come to see
us everyday and bring us something to eat, and
dress our wounds. We have very fine beds.
They were going to send me to Philadelphia at
first, but the doctors thought it best for me to
stay because I was not able to be transported.
My wound is very bad. It is in my left side and
the ball has entered between the hip and
backbone and the doctors can’t get it out.
Therefore, I have to suffer so much, but I think
I shall soon be over it to come back and give the
Rebs another trial. I am glad Captain that you
are all right yet. We have had very good news
here about Vicksburg having fallen. I think the
rebellion will soon be crushed, but I wanted to
have another page at them, please and tell me
how many there is left in the company and how
many were all lost. John Stafford is here some-
where in Baltimore. He came in the cars with me
from Littlestown. He was wounded in the head
but very little, I think he will soon return. Please
send me my letters if there are any for me and
send me a Description List. I think I can get home
for 30 days, so I can draw my money. I must close
my letter, please excuse all errors for I am very
weak.
I am yours truly,
William Kalsow
