About the Author
William Kalsaw, of Detroit, Michigan, enlisted as a Private in the 24th Michigan Infantry Company F on July 24, 1862. He was mustered into service on August 15 at the age of 22. On July 1, 1863, Kalsaw was wounded at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. He was transferred from the 24th Michigan Infantry to the Veteran Reserve Corps on June 15, 1864.
