[Storming a Battery.]

I have took
this opportunity to write a few
lines to let you know where we
are we are camped about a mile
from town. I got a letter from Orvil
last night and one from
[ ? ]
I commenced a letter last night
and did not get time to finish
it and so I try again
We have order to march
we expect to haft to start
every
[ ? ] I am glad
to here that the boys are
enlisting so well there
we have seen the boys
that inlisted to Middland
when I was at home
we drewed our pay the 29
th
of sep the boys are all
well at presant
we have had a hard
march
[ ? ]
nor expected to have a battle
with General Bragg the
reason they did not attack
him I do not know now I
suppose we will haft to go back
south again after him
soe expected to have a battle
at Momfordsville and they did
have a small battle but we was
not in it and old bragg
avacuated it and and we was
after him but he got away from
us I guess our oficers did not want
to be in a place where they would
haft to smell burnt powder
well girls I did not see a good
looking girl down south
till I got back here I want you
to send all of them boys of to war
befor they get daughfted
we have lots of fun here
I should like to of been there
to seen the girls cry when Lorenzo
went of but never mind that he will
come back and there was O C Bates
to I dont see how Mrs Bates
let him go of
well I guess I have wrote anough
nonsence so I will come to a close
by saying give my respect
to Martin and Elizabeth
and all the rest of the folks
