Regiment: 3rd Michigan Cavalry Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: Tuscumbia Sep 6th 1862 Dear friends I now take my pen in hand to write a few lines I am well and all the rest of the boys we are now in Alabama and we expect a battle every day we have not got our armes nor our horses nor clothes nor do not know when we shall get them we have plenty to eat now for when we get out we kill a beef and a hog I like it very well here only the water but we have beter water than we have had the hogs have been out a scouting and took one prisoner this morning I want you to tell Andrea and Milan to write tell them not to wait for me to write for I dont get time to do eny thing tell Ruth and mary and Malina and all the rest of the prety girles to write and I will rite as soon as I can tell Granfather and Granmother that I have fun and if ever I get back I will fetch a piece of rebel ham there was about fifty nigers came in here yesterday now you must write as soon as you get this I sent 25 Dollars some by Mr Conway and the rest of the Boys sent some by him I must wind up for this time for it is so hot so goodby Direct your leter to the army of the Missipi third cavelry Company C.
