Dear Friend It is with pleasure that i sit down to write a few to you. I am well
at present and hope you are the same. i am in the midst of Rebeldom sixty mules
South of Washington. We are within three miles of the rebel picket lines, it has
been very pleasant weather every since we have been here till now it rains like
everything mud up to the top of my boots. I have seen ten rebs. they deserted,
they was a ragged looking set they say that the rebelionis about crushed. our
regiment went out on a raid yesterday. General Kilpatric says he will take our
men out of Richmond prison or loose every man he has got. We have got orders to
pack everything. We dont know where we are a going. You must write and tel me
how Sabin gets along. I have not got any more time to write. Give my best re-
spects to all.
You must write as soon as you can good bye Mariette
