Regiment: 3rd Michigan Cavalry Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: Camp Anderson Oct 31st/61 My Dear Wife I am enjoying good health and hope this may reach you and the little ones enjoying the same blessing We have made much progress towards getting ready to move since I came here last The first second regiment got their uniforms before I came back and the 3rd have got 2 shirts 1 pr. drawers and 1 pr boots each man We are drilling every day on foot The second Regt has orders to be ready to move at 2 hours notice Colonel Kellogg has been to washington and returned day before yesterday and came up to the camp and made a speech He said he had ordered uniforms equipments and pay for us The uniforms to come in a few days The 3rd Regt probably will not get their pay now You probably heard about Lobdel and and a few others taking the power in their own hands to redress grievan ces The cause lay in the cooking and preparations of the table There had been negligence for two or three days Lobdell took the lead and 3 or 4 followed and then probably 500 helped to sweep the the tables they had only been seated about 5 minutes There has been quite a change for the better. we live well now I don’t think I can come home again I should have to pay fare both ways and that would be most five dollars Id like to have you come if you can get the money but dont start with less than 7 dollars or ten if you like You will want some when you get here If you come let me know when so I can meet you at the cars We have prayer meetings on the ground most every night and preaching every sunday I have not told you what the last order is We have been ordered to Missouri as soon as we are ready and when the news came by the old Colonel There were three cheers for Fremont and three for the Colonel such as you never heard Write me about the business how it is going send me the rest of that coverlid by some of the boys soon as you can I may need it Write the first opportunity tell about my babies Some may think we are too old to talk of love but I will sign myself as my feelings prompt me       Your true and loving husband O C Gaylord P.S.
