Dear Wife
I should like to have
heard from you before I left
St Louis and there may be
a letter in camp for me
I want to hear how you
get along with the measels
We have marching orders
to leave to day down the
river I am going along with
the company I am not able
to ride a horse yet although
I am well but weak and
my lung is not sound yet
It will probably be a month
the doctor says before I can
my horse
They take every man that
is not sick however weak
he is Our pay day day would
have come the first of next
week and now that we are
going off it may be a month
before we get our pay I cant
go to camp because our
conveyance will start from
here and I might miss it
and I cant go from camp
because I cant ride a horse
else I would go over and
see if there is a letter
I shall write immediately after
I get to our stopping place
where that will be I know
no more about it than you
Our company has gone down
and we will follow this afternoon
It is a beautiful warm day
like April and has been all the
week Your Loving Husband
O C Gaylord
