Regiment: 3rd Michigan Cavalry Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: Hospital Feb 26th 1862 Dear Wife I should like to have heard from you before I left St Louis and there may be a letter in camp for me I want to hear how you get along with the measels We have marching orders to leave to day down the river I am going along with the company I am not able to ride a horse yet although I am well but weak and my lung is not sound yet It will probably be a month the doctor says before I can my horse They take every man that is not sick however weak he is Our pay day day would have come the first of next week and now that we are going off it may be a month before we get our pay I cant go to camp because our conveyance will start from here and I might miss it and I cant go from camp because I cant ride a horse else I would go over and see if there is a letter I shall write immediately after I get to our stopping place where that will be I know no more about it than you Our company has gone down and we will follow this afternoon It is a beautiful warm day like April and has been all the week Your Loving Husband O C Gaylord
