Dear Sister Emily,

Dont let this big sheet of
paper scare you into fits. for if it does I should
feel real bad, I received your letter Saturday night
and was real glad to hear from you for we were
getting lonesome and saying old Scurfy and Poll
Hewitt and split-tail and everything else. we
could think of. I was going to write yesterday. but
before we got the work done in the morning, the
School master came poking along. and we had to
entertain him until nine-oclock in the evening.
we had a gay time for Sunday. I got a letter from
Hatt last Wednesday. they were then to Uncle
Marks and going to Marshall the next day. Uncle
Mark has got well. We will look for them about
Thursday. Hatt said Mr. Fullington was going to
bring them home. I want you to come down too.
wont you now please? Hatt said Pa had talked so
much he was hoarse. he wanted to come home
instead of going to Marshall.
Whens you see Dell tell
her if she dont write to me I will make her hunt her
hole, or hump and gather or something else. she
wont get mad at that will she! I got a letter from
George not long ago. he told me all about his being
taken prisoner, So got a letter from Lizzie Gridley
not long ago. perhaps to have told you about it. but I
dont know. she is in Penn. I wrote to her to come
this way when she went home. and make us a visit.
I wish she would. and then we will go up to your
house. you would like to see her would you not. Our
school is out one week from Wednesday. but they talk
of having two more weeks school. Do hope they will.
and then I can get through my Arithmetic.
Mr. Willard has sold his farm for $2,500. to a
man by the name of Ambrose.
I wish my Ma would come home. for I have got tired
of keeping house. When school is out Lett and I are
coming up there and make you a long visit.
But I guess you are tired of reading by this time. but
you have not got half through yet. Lott and me are going
to write to your man before we leave.
Marol Haight’s folks have got the small pox. is it all

Castell Whiting had to leave her school on account of the
small pox.
[ ? ] school is out next saturay.
But I will let Lott write the rest of the news. if she
can find any. Give my love to all Ypsilanti excuse
short letters and bad writing, and come and see us when
you get ready. From your unforgettable Good for nothing sister
Fannie (S.D.)
Feb. 20th in the 18 hundred and froze to death
From me to you dear Pop,
you may
When you read this imagine
that I am seated at the supper table waiting for the pancakes
to bake. well I have eaten my pancakes and I will try and
write some news. if I can think of any.
Well in the first place I am troubled with the “rum gully
on the pan tool”. and the School master recommends “squirt essence of
squat root to take every two rods” but I cant find any such
stuff in the state of monroe can you find any up there
if you can I wish that you would send me some.
I guess that it took you some two or three weeks to make up
that letter. I dont blieve you could do it again. I hardly
think that there was sense enough in your letter to pay
the postage on. and this letter has got still less.
but dear me I have got tired of house keeping and
going to school too but we have had company most every
night since Ma has been gone but we wont have any company
any more and I expect that I will have the gum pluggens
before school is out.
How does old Poll Hewitt get along is he well and in good
health and how does Bill C. get along. give my respects
to Manely Dawd and tell her to stay
[ ? ]. from your house.
how do you like Bubs picture it think it looks real nice
Now Dear Brother Pop. I want you to get your “forty graf took”
(good grammar, but I happened to be setting on a grammar leaf
just then) and give it to me if you please. but I must stop
for Fam. wants to write. so good bye. love to all. write soon.
Lottie Davenport.
My best. worst. + only brother in law.
Are you not tired of reading nonsense by this
time. I bet you are and wish you had never
heard of the Blue Bush simpletons. we had to send
for a Philadelphia Lawyer almost. to read your
letter. but we managed to pick out the principal
part of it. and that was the name of Frank Brant.
I think this letter looks as though it could not
help it, But Oh dear me. I shant write another
word. you will say. bully for you.
I have got the
[ ? ] on the squiggle.
and I am going to bed. I shant chafe. worry. fret.
and pucker. like you did. for fear this will be 2
seconds and Eleven sixteenths to late. If you cant
read this bring it down and I will read it for you.
But good night. happy dreams. a good breakfast. and
enough to eat. when you have read this burn it
up. Did you get any Valentine. here is one for you
