Regiment: 4th Michigan Reorganized Infantry Battles Mentioned: Nashville, Tennessee Historical Figures: Head Quarters Co G 4th Mich Infantry In Camp 5 Miles from Nashville Feb 2 1865 Dear Parents we received orders at 12 oclock on Jan 30 and by 2 we were on the march for Huntsville we arived there and went on Board the train and wated there till after 10 Before we started we came through this time quicker than we ever went through before we arrived at Nashville at 9 oclock last night and did not get of the train till 10 oclock this morning when we marched oute here with the rest of the Brigade we will probaly stay here 4 or 5 Days we are on our way to Easport Miss and if the weather holds fine we will have a plesent trip. we had 3 men killed they fell of the train and were instily killed we never came through between Stevenson & Nashville before in the day time before I never saw such a rocky place in my life there is a tunnel that took us 10 minote to run through I never was in such a dark place before I hope this is the last time we will go over the Charlston & Memphes R. R. this makes 4 times that we have traveled over it I hated to leave our Camp at Huntsville for we had just got it finished. we are campetd where Thomas had the fight with hood we can see the efects of it here very plane there is trees here 3 ft in diameter that are split all to pieces with artillery and eny quanty of Dead horses laying all around I think some think is on foot for Gen Thomas is here. I received the mony you sent me all right I got it this morning but the box has not got here yet but I think it will be here before we leave but I wont have anything now for we wont stay long in a place and it is not safe to have any think sent. The best way to send is By Mail. I Bought me a pair of boots here for I thought we might leave before I get my Box boots are as cheap here as they are in Pontiac. William Reece of my Co dide Jan 24 in Hospital at Huntsvill ehe is the first man we have lost I rote to you that I would like to have you come down. but you had not Beter not come now. the 3 Regt are here with us. James Hickey & Charly Tushill and James Whittmore are well. William Myres is sick he is here with us but will have to go to the Hospital I think I will have to close hoping this will find you all well. Capt Henderson & Lt Henry send there love.
